About Membership
If the Bible is the foundation of our church, then membership is what binds us together. Both Christ and Paul pointed us toward membership for our encouragement, our accountability, and our growth. We seek to carry out this vision through our process by which to join EABC.
Membership Class – All prospective members must attend our Membership class. The curriculum covers the following:
- Why Join a Church?
- Statement of Faith
- Church Covenant
- Church History
- Missions & Outreach
- Life Together
Courses are announced and offered periodically throughout the year. Upon completion, are able but not obligated to sign up for a membership interview, the second step of the membership process.
Membership Interview – In a 1 hour meeting, the prospective member meets with an elder to provide basic biographical information and recount God’s converting work in his or her life. Those who have not been baptized will receive further instruction on what to do to become a member. The prospective member would then sign the statement of faith and church covenant, and the application would go to the elders.
Elder Recommendation – At a regularly scheduled elders’ meeting, the elder will review the applicant’s testimony with the other elders. Upon receiving their collective approval, the candidate’s application proceeds to the next step: congregational affirmation.
Congregational Affirmation - During our members meetings, each elder who conducted an interview briefly describes how the applicants, who are desiring to be admitted to membership, have come to know the Lord. Questions are fielded, a vote is taken, and with a majority secured, candidates are admitted into membership.

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."
Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV)
Membership Covenant
Having been called and empowered by the Spirit of God to receive Jesus Christ as Lord, Savior, and supreme Treasure of our lives, and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:4-20
We commit, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this Church in knowledge, holiness and peace; to promote its maturity and fruitfulness; to sustain its corporate worship, ordinances, and discipline; to regularly assemble together to worship God and mutually build one another up in Christ; to welcome, and test, instruction from the Scriptures by the elders of the church which accords with the Statement of Beliefs; to faithfully attend the Members’ Meetings; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the Church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.
Acts 4:32-37; Ephesians 1:15-23; 3:14-21; 4:1-3, 11-32; Titus 2:1-15
We also commit to maintain family and personal devotions; to disciple our children in the
Christian faith; to seek the salvation of our relatives, acquaintances, and enemies; to walk properly before outsiders; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our conduct; to avoid all gossiping, slandering, backbiting, and unrighteous anger; to seek God's help in abstaining from all practices that bring unwarranted harm to the body or jeopardize our own or another's faith.
Deuteronomy 6:1-9; Ephesians 4:17-32; 5:22-6:9; 1 Corinthians 10:23-33; 1 Peter 2:9-12
We further commit to watch over one another in brotherly love; to speak the truth in love to one another; to remember one another in prayer; to work for the unity of the Holy Spirit in the bond of peace with one another; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always willing to forgive, ready for reconciliation, and to be mindful of the words of our Savior to obtain it without delay.
Matthew 18:1-35; Galatians 5:1-6:10; Ephesians 4:11-5:21; Hebrews 3:12-13; 10:19-25
Finally, we commit that when we remove from this body of Christ, we will unite with a church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant. Moreover, as a result of this covenant relationship, to these and all other scriptural duties we do humbly, voluntarily, and joyfully submit ourselves, promising and purposing to perform them, not in our own strength, but by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.
